Why I Built India's Financial OS for Salaried Professionals
TL;DR: Indian professionals were piecing their financial picture together from 5-7 disconnected tools—one for tax, another for retirement, another for salary benchmarking—each with different assumptions and none talking to each other. As an ex-Meta engineer, I built a single, ad-free platform that connects salary, retirement, and peer benchmarking, and still matches your payslip down to the last rupee.
The Problem I Solved
In 2025, despite India having 300+ million salaried employees, there wasn't a single platform that:
- Matched actual payslips (most calculators were off by ₹5,000-15,000)
- Supported both tax regimes accurately
- Handled complex scenarios like HRA exemption correctly
- Updated with latest rules (many still used 2019 tax slabs)
- Connected the full picture — salary, retirement, and peer benchmarking were siloed across separate tools that never talked to each other

A Commitment to Precision & Integrity
In-Hand.in was created by Rohit Nigam, a Principal Machine Learning Engineer with over 20 years of experience building software at Meta, Autodesk, Adobe, IBM, Cognizant, DXC, and Symantec.
Having worked across India, North America, and Europe, Rohit experienced firsthand how difficult it was to compare compensation, understand taxes, and make informed financial decisions. Existing tools solved isolated problems but rarely connected the entire picture.
In-Hand was built to change that—combining accurate calculations, salary intelligence, and practical financial planning into a single platform focused on helping professionals understand their money.
The Methodology: Why We're Different
1. Engineered for Accuracy
Built using official Income Tax Act formulas to ensure the calculations are precise and reliable. The methodology follows the exact standards used by Indian payroll systems.
2. Updated Promptly
Tax rules change. EPF limits change. Professional tax rates change. We track all government notifications to keep the calculator current with the latest Indian tax laws as soon as they are announced.
🎯 What Makes This Different
What Makes Us Accurate?
Complex Tax Calculations Done Right
- HRA Exemption: We calculate the minimum of 3 values as per IT Act Section 10(13A)
- Standard Deduction: ₹75,000 (new regime) / ₹50,000 (old regime) for FY 2026-27
- EPF Calculation: Handles the ₹15,000 basic salary threshold correctly
- Professional Tax: State-wise variations accounted for
Edge Cases Handled
- Basic salary as percentage vs. absolute amount
- Metro vs. non-metro HRA rates (50% vs. 40%)
- Tax regime optimization (shows which gives lower tax)
- Salary components that are tax-exempt
