Offer letter salary breakup — common questions

How do I calculate in-hand salary from an offer letter?

Start with the fixed CTC (not the headline number if variable pay and retirals are listed separately). Subtract employer PF if it is inside CTC, then income tax, employee PF, and professional tax. Our scanner reads the breakup from a screenshot and fills the calculator so you see monthly take-home under FY 2026-27 tax rules.

Is employer PF part of CTC in Indian offer letters?

Often yes — and that inflates the headline. Employer PF is a statutory cost; when it is counted inside CTC, your cash component is lower than the package suggests. The scanner detects whether PF is inside the stated total and sets the calculator accordingly.

Why is basic salary important in an offer?

Basic drives HRA, employee/employer PF, and gratuity. A low basic with high allowances makes the CTC look larger while reducing PF accumulation and loan eligibility. We flag when basic is a small share of fixed CTC.

Can I upload a PDF offer letter?

Take a screenshot of the salary table and upload the image (PNG or JPEG, max 4 MB). The image is processed in memory and not stored. Free to use — up to 3 scans per day.

What does the offer structure grade mean?

It is a quick read on whether the breakup is employee-friendly: basic percentage, variable pay risk, retirals buried in CTC, and equity upside. It is guidance, not legal or HR advice — always verify numbers before you sign.
